Domenico Saccà is an Emeritus Professor of Computer Engineering at the University of Calabria. From January 1987 to November 2021, he served as a Full Professor of Computer Engineering in the DIMES Department at the same university. From 2017 to 2019, he also served as Deputy Rector (Prorettore Vicario) of the University of Calabria.
He previously held leadership roles as Director of ICAR-CNR, the Institute for High Performance Computing and Networking of the Italian National Research Council, and as President of ICT-SUD, a competence center in Computing and Telecommunications operating across five regions of Southern Italy.
In the late 20th century, he was a Visiting Scientist at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, at the Department of Computer Science at UCLA, and at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) in Berkeley. He also served as a Scientific Consultant for MCC, a U.S. research consortium established in Austin, TX, during the 1980s to address the Japanese Fifth Generation initiative. Earlier, he was Head of the Research Division of CRAI, a research center in Cosenza, Italy.
He is a Senior Member of both the ACM and the IEEE Computer Society.
Founder of SEBD (Symposium on Advanced Database Systems) in 1993 and Coordinator of its Steering Committee until 2021; currently Emeritus Member of the Committee.
